The first step of the saline treatment is similar to the process of traditional tattooing: a DermaHealth technician will use a device similar to an ink gun to tattoo the saline solution into the treatment area. This punctures the top layer of skin, opening the area. Then, a salt paste is applied to the skin, which draws the tattoo pigment to the skin’s surface and gently exfoliates it away. Our technician can treat up to a 4-by-4-inch area in one sitting.
Clients should expect three to four procedures before they see desired results. With this method of tattoo removal, clients can expect the tattoo to become lighter, but a full removal should not be expected. The skin can be re-tattooed after the treatment area heals.

We require a consultation (at no cost) prior to this treatment for those who have had a history of allergic reactions to tattoo pigment. Clients should consult their doctor about the allergy prior to treatment. We will develop a treatment plan according to the severity of the allergy, the area to be lightened, and the doctor’s recommendations for the client.

After Care
Performing the correct aftercare will directly affect how well the treatment is received. Without following the aftercare there is a significant chance of failure to pull pigment or scarring.
- Do not touch your removal area
- For the first 7 days avoid water and moisture near the removal area
- After the first 7 days wash once a day with mild unscented soap, rinsing well, pat dry
- Do not apply any creams or ointments
- Do not pick at the scabbing [can lead to scarring] and do not rub the scabbing
- Wear loose clothing as not to dislodge any scabbing or irritate the area, it must exfoliate off naturally
- No sun exposure or tanning while healing [can lead to scarring]
- Be patient, the healing process takes time, but it is necessary to achieve a pull of the pigment.
